The Cheesiest Poem I HAD To Do

Ok, so I had to make a poem for school a few weeks ago. The assignment was about changing the genre of a written work. I choose to rewrite an open letter to a poem because I thought that it was going to be fun and easier since this can be short and it was only going to be a matter of rhyme... But it turns out that it wasn't that easy. I did struggle a lot. I thought that it will be ready in one day, but it passed a week and I still didn't have at least a verse. So, I listen to a lot of music, love songs to be more specific, since I choose an open love letter because... you know, love is such a strong emotion. If you think about it, almost everything is about love. Love is such a powerful feeling, and that's why most of the greatest artworks are about love. From music, movies, paintings, poems, books to dance, and even cooking -yes believe it or not, for some people cooking is also a love language- were inspired by love, from the sweet process of falling in love to a dark painful heartbreak. This topic is a strong source of inspiration since love is the most powerful emotion. Just think about how many of your favorite songs are about being in love... or being heartbroken. A lot, right? Let's admit it, we all have a sad playlist with songs about being heartbroken, even if we don't feel like that, because we all have been or will be there at some point in our life.

Well, back to the point because as you might see, I easily lose focus. I listened to a lot of love songs and wrote down on paper random sentences, poetic sentences, that suddenly came into my mind during the day. So, after one week of having almost nothing, I sat down and re-read what I had and find out that some of those random sentences made a match between each other. So, then it hit me! It was just a matter of putting them all together and finding a relation between them, like a puzzle. After half a week, I finally finished my poem. Of course, it's not the greatest poem of all time, but I liked it, and I'm kind of proud of it since it took me a LOT of time to finish it. That's why I felt the necessity of sharing it with someone else besides my teacher.

The poem:

I CAN'T WAIT TO MEET YOU

I can’t wait to meet you

Sometimes I talk to myself about you

wondering what are you doing right now

and about how much I have to tell you to bring you up to speed

because we have never met and you already got me head over heels

Because I know that the moment I see you

I will know you are the one

and we will drown into each other's eyes

and we will be two souls in one

Maybe we will have to cross oceans

climb mountains and jump into voids to meet each other

but I know that when life brings us together

I will see your smile and know that it was worth the wait

I have faith that our souls will find each other

It is just a matter of time

It will be half timing and half luck until we met

and realize it was meant to be

And I don’t mind waiting until we are old and grey

I will wait forever

until life brings us together

because I know that wherever you are

whenever it’s right

maybe at the red lights

even if it’s raining or at night

we'll find each other's paths

Every time I look at the sky

I can’t help but wonder about the color of your eyes

Tell me, are they brown, blue, or green?

I don’t really mind because I’m sure I will get lost in them

and see our love reflected in them

It’s crazy how I can’t stop thinking about you

How can you miss somebody you have never met?

because I already love you

even though I don’t even know you yet

because I know you will be my forever

and I will be the stars of your night

the sun of your day

and together we will age

Meanwhile, I will follow the map that leads to you

because I can’t wait to get lost with you

dance with you

sing with you

live with you

die with you

and LOVE with you

I’m just sorry I’m not with you right now

but I promise I will never let you go

because you will be my everything

and I will be your all

I can’t wait to meet you

I can’t wait to meet my forever

because YOU ARE my forever.

I know it is not that good, but I'm surprised of myself. I mean I knew that lately I've been a little hopeless romantic, maybe because of quarantine, but this is almost shameful and awkward for me. It was fun, though jajajaja That's the thing about writing and about art, you get to know the writer or artist's alter ego, another version of themselves that neither they knew about it. You see, I'm definitely not a poet, so I accept every feedback or suggestion in order to improve this poem.
